The mayor of New York, who once strongly supported cryptocurrency, has been charged by prosecutors on suspicion of corruption
According to a report by The New York Times on September 25th citing insiders, New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been charged by prosecutors after undergoing a federal corruption investigation, becoming the first mayor in New York City's history to be prosecuted during his term. Eric Adams has long been a supporter of cryptocurrency and Bitcoin (BTC). When he was elected mayor of New York City in 2021, he even promised to make the city the "center of the cryptocurrency industry" and paid his first three salaries in BTC and Ethereum (ETH).
At present, Eric Adams' indictment is still sealed, so the charges he faces are still unclear. He is expected to appear in court on September 26th, when the indictment will be made public and the scope of the charges involved will be revealed.
Eric Adams insisted on his innocence in a statement to The New York Post and a public video, stating that he will work hard to prove his innocence.
I have always known that if I stand firm for New Yorkers, I will become a target - and I have truly become a target. If I am sued, I am innocent, and I will fight with all my strength and spirit
The accusation against Eric Adams originated from the FBI's investigation of Eric Adams's personal electronic devices in November 2023, involving the allegation that Türkiye's government was suspected of illegal donations in 2021.
